Tea tree oil (which sometimes goes by its scientific name Melaleuca) has many qualities that make it useful in everyday life. Tea tree oil has been shown to have antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antiviral effects, and it makes a great cleaning agent too!

Its medicinal aroma might not be as enticing as other oils like lemon or lavender, but that doesn’t mean tea tree oil isn’t just as deserving of a spot on your shelf! In today’s post, I’ll be sharing 20 uses for tea tree oil that can help you solve everyday problems!

1. Bad Breath Fix

Mix up a quick tea tree oil rinse to freshen bad breath fast. Just add a drop of tea tree oil to 1 ounce of water, swish for a minute or so, then spit it out (don’t swallow!)

2. Reduce Dandruff

You can add tea tree oil to your normal shampoo to help keep dandruff at bay. Just add 3-4 drops of tea tree oil straight into your bottle of shampoo and use as usual!

3. Soothe Eczema

To help soothe skin an eczema flareup, dilute 1-2 drops of tea tree oil with a tablespoon of fractionated coconut oil. Massage onto the affected area twice a day to help control inflammation and itchiness.

4. Tick Removal

You can use tea tree oil to help get rid of ticks. Just add a drop of tea tree oil to the tick and surrounding skin, and the tick should resurface long enough for you to get rid of him.

5. Laundry Helper

Use tea tree oil in your laundry to help keep mildew-prone items like towels fresh and clean. Just add 20-30 drops of tea tree oil to your wash load to help prevent mildew issues.

6. Remove Skin Tags

Add a drop of tea tree oil to the pad of a bandage, then place the bandage over a skin tag and leave overnight. Repeat nightly to help remove a skin tag naturally.

7. Earache Treatment

Suffering from a bothersome earache? Apply a drop or two of tea tree oil on the outside of the affected ear, or add a couple drops on a cotton ball and place just inside the ear opening.

8. Erase Permanent Marker

To remove permanent marker from skin when soap and water just won’t cut it, use tea tree oil! Dilute a drop of tea tree oil in a teaspoon of carrier oil and use it to remove the marks.

Mix 2 teaspoons of tea tree oil into 2 cups water and spray on areas of mold and mildew around the house. Shake the spray well before each use, and don’t rinse afterward to give it time to work.

Make your own homemade deodorant by mixing a few drops of tea tree oil with about 1/2 cup each of coconut oil and baking soda.

Add several drops of tea tree oil to purified water, then pour the solution over your hair and scalp and massage it in to help kill lice. Soak combs and brushes in the same solution to help kill lingering lice.
