Helpful Remedies For Wrinkles Around Your Mouth

Fine lines and wrinkles, including lip lines, are an inescapable part of aging, and aging is an inescapable part of life. And while I try not to get too worked up about the various signs that I’m getting older, sometimes that’s easier said than done!

For me, it’s the lines around my lips (AKA lip lines or lip wrinkles) that bother me most frequently. But since I doubt I’m the only one who feels self-conscious about their lip lines, I figured I could help us all out by rounding up some helpful home remedies for lip wrinkles.

So I’ve put together this list of 9 simple and practical remedies for lip lines! Give them a try, and for even more anti-aging skincare tips, look for my e-book Aging Gracefully in my shop (or download it free if you’re an OGT Plus member!)

9 Home Remedies For Lip Lines And Wrinkles

1. Use Sun Protection

A lot of factors contribute to aging, including sun exposure. Even if you apply an SPF moisturizer to your face every day, failing to protect your lips can eventually lead to lip lines and wrinkles.

Luckily, protecting your lips from the harmful effects of UV rays is easy! Just swipe on a lipstick or lip balm with SPF before you leave the house.

2. Nutrition & Hydration

When it comes to minimizing the appearance of lip wrinkles, never underestimate the power of proper nutrition and hydration! Eating a balanced diet with plenty of antioxidant-rich foods like berries, leafy greens, nuts, and whole grains is key.

And make sure you’re drinking plenty of water too. Aim to drink 8-10 glasses per day to help keep your skin looking firm and vibrant.

3. Consider Collagen

Collagen, the primary protein found in our skin, starts to break down as we age. This causes the skin to lose some of its structural support, leading to lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Many people (myself included!) find that taking a collagen supplement helps to keep their skin looking brighter and more firm.

4. Try Facial Exercises

Doing a few simple facial exercises can help firm and tone the skin around your mouth, reducing the appearance of fine lines. Try doing one or both of these exercises 10 times per day:

  • With your lips closed, lift one corner of your mouth into a half-smile, then repeat on the other side.
  • Hide your teeth with your lips, then open your mouth into a big “O” shape. Smile as big as you can without showing your teeth, then relax your mouth.

5. Exfoliate

Exfoliation sloughs off dry and dull skin, which can help improve the appearance of fine lines. You can make your own simple lip scrub at home to keep your lips and the skin around them looking soft and more vibrant!

6. Use a Gentle Cleanser

It’s important to wash your face with a gentle cleanser rather than a harsh soap, especially for those of us with aging skin. Gentle cleansers (like an oil cleanser, for instance) won’t strip your skin of its natural oils like soaps can.

7. Add Vitamin C

Consider incorporating a product with vitamin C into your skincare regimen, like my Illuminating Vitamin C Serum. Vitamin C is great for aging skin, as it can help promote tissue healing, reduce hyperpigmentation, counter sun damage, and more.

8. Don’t Use Straws

In case you needed another reason to ditch the straw in your drink, consider the fact that straw use can contribute to wrinkles around your mouth and upper lip. Repeatedly pursing your lips around straws can deepen those lines around your lips, so opt to sip your drinks instead.
