If you sleep on your side or stomach (which includes about 76% of us according to the Better Sleep Council), you spend your sleeping hours with at least part of your face smushed up against your pillow. While this isn’t inherently bad, it does mean your skin is spending a lot of time in a scrunched up and wrinkled position!

The Pillowcase Problem

Over time, all that scrunching and wrinkling can actually deepen fine lines and wrinkles. And that’s pretty annoying, considering that many of us spend time, money, and effort trying to avoid wrinkles and lines if we can!

Luckily for us, there’s actually a simple way to avoid the effects of skin-scrunching and sleep wrinkles, and that’s what I’ll be sharing with you in today’s post! It turns out that the solution may be as simple as switching to a silk pillowcase (like this one!)

Here’s Why You Should Switch To A Silk Pillowcase

What advantages does silk offer over a standard cotton pillowcase? Primarily, silk offers less resistance, which means less friction, less bunching, and less smushing while you sleep.

Switching to a silk pillowcase isn’t going to reverse or totally prevent wrinkles from forming, but it will help keep your skin smooth while you sleep. So at the very least, you can rest easy knowing that your pillowcase isn’t undermining all of your wrinkle prevention efforts while you sleep!

But preventing wrinkles isn’t the only good reason to make the switch to silk. Check out the other compelling reasons I’ve listed below!

6 More Good Reasons To Switch To A Silk Pillowcase

1. Keeps Hair Moisturized

Did you know that some pillowcase fabrics are so dry that they can actually draw moisture out of your hair while you sleep? And the friction created when you move your head around can lead to tangles, static buildup, and even split ends!

A silk pillowcase can solve many of those issues. It will help your hair retain moisture while you sleep, and you’ll experience far fewer of those friction-related hair issues too.

2. Better For Curly Hair

As someone who has had stick-straight hair all her life, I can’t personally speak to the struggle of keeping curly hair curly overnight. But our curly-haired Production Manager Brittany assures me that switching to a silk pillowcase has made a huge difference for her!

Instead of waking up with flattened, volume-less curls, a silk pillowcase helps preserve your curl pattern while you sleep. Your 2nd day curls have never looked better! :-)

3. Stay Cool

Tired of waking up in the middle of the night feeling sweaty and overheated? Silk pillowcases are nice and cool, which can help you stay comfortable throughout the night.

4. Keeps Skin Moisturized

Similar to item #1 above, standard pillowcases can draw moisture away from your skin too. Switching to a silk pillowcase can help ensure your skin stays moisturized, and that any products you use will stay on your skin longer.

5. Better For Allergies

Silk is naturally hypoallergenic, which makes it a great choice for allergy sufferers and those with sensitive skin. The fibers are naturally resistant to dust mites, fungus, mold, and other allergens that can lurk in the fibers of other fabrics.

6. Treat Yourself!

Sleeping on silk just feels luxurious! If you don’t want to splurge on a whole set of silk bedding, swapping your current pillowcase out for a silk one is an easy and affordable way to upgrade your sleeping experience. :-)
