As much as I hate it, I often find myself struggling with the dreaded “Afternoon Slump.” It tends to set in around 3 pm, when whatever I ate for lunch has settled into my stomach, and my productivity and motivation start evaporating into thin air. I feel sleepy and sluggish, and it can be really hard to snap out of it!

I’m sure that many of you experience your own version of the Afternoon Slump too. You might reach for a cup of coffee, an energy drink, or (in my case) a Diet Coke to reenergize, but there’s no need to rely on caffeine every time!

In fact, there’s a completely natural way to kick that Afternoon Slump to the curb (or any other kind of slump, fatigue, or sluggishness for that matter!) The next time you need a pick-me-up, just reach for your bottle of peppermint essential oil!

The Energizing Power Of Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint oil is one of the most energizing and rejuvenating essential oils you can buy. Even a quick sniff of it out of the bottle can give you a boost of energy!

In a 2005 study in the International Journal of Psychophysiology, researchers studied this effect by having participants spend time in a darkened room, either with or without the scent of peppermint oil. They found that participants who spent time in the peppermint-scented room experienced significantly less daytime sleepiness compared to participants in the no-odor room.

So to help spread the word about the amazing energizing power of peppermint oil, today I’ll be sharing some simple ways to take advantage of it! So here are 9 ways to use peppermint oil for a much-needed energy boost that won’t have you reaching for that caffeine fix.

1. Diffuse It

Use it in a diffuser to spread the energizing aroma of peppermint around your home or office.

2. Roll It On

Make a peppermint roller bottle by adding a few drops of peppermint oil to a roller bottle full of your favorite carrier oil. Roll it over your wrists and the back of your neck for a pick-me-up when you’re feeling sluggish.

3. Take A Whiff

Keep a small dram bottle of peppermint oil in your purse or at your desk. Open it up and take a big whiff whenever you need a quick boost!

4. Clarify Your Scalp

If you need an early morning boost of energy, add a few drops of peppermint to your shampoo during your morning shower. The peppermint will provide an invigorating tingly sensation, plus it will help cleanse and clarify your scalp too!

When your feet are sore after a hard day’s work, a relaxing foot soak can help you unwind. Add peppermint oil to your foot soak for a pleasant cooling sensation and added pain relief.

8. Diffuse On The Go

9. Use Your Hands

Need a big boost of energy fast? Put a drop of peppermint oil onto your palms, rub them together, then bring them up to your nose and breathe deeply. It’s as quick and easy as taking a whiff from the bottle, but putting the oil directly on your hands makes the scent (and its energizing effects) last longer.
