Every winter, the cold, dry air eventually leads to a battle with dry, itchy, flaky skin. I’ve dealt with dry nasal passages, bleeding cuticles, and itchy legs and arms, but the most formidable of my foes is almost always cracked heels.

Several years ago, while seeing a wound specialist for treatments related to a foot wound that stubbornly refused to heal, the specialist happened to notice the extremely dry state of my heels. The healing cream they recommended turned out to be the closest thing to a “miracle cure” I’ve ever encountered!

Despite my fondness for homemade or natural remedies, this healing cream has earned a permanent place in my medicine cabinet, and I want to spread the word about it as widely as possible!

The Best Healing Cream For Extremely Dry Skin

The “miracle cure” cream the specialist recommended to me was Atrac-Tain Moisturizing Cream, a product primarily used for wound care. It’s not something you can find in every pharmacy, but you can buy it online easily enough.

A 5-ounce tube costs around $15-20, but not only is it worth every penny, a little bit goes a long way. And after experiencing the healing capabilities of this cream firsthand, I did some research to find out why it was so much more effective than other lotions and creams that I’d tried.

The key to Atrac-Tain’s effectiveness lies in its main active ingredients: urea and AHA. Urea is a chemical compound found in urine (though this cream, thankfully, uses a synthetic version) that acts like a moisture magnet by attracting water to dry skin cells.

AHA, or alpha hydroxy acid, is a skincare ingredient made from fruit, milk, or sugar cane. It penetrates dead skin cells and loosens the molecular bonds that attach them to the underlying tissues, encouraging them to slough off to expose the newer skin underneath.

For those who suffer from dry, cracked heels like me, or dry skin in general, urea and AHA are a powerful duo. They work together to revitalize dry, injured skin and restore it to a softer, more moisturized state.

If you don’t believe me, check out the reviews on Amazon! You can read page after page of people RAVING about this stuff, including people who with eczema, lymphedema, and other skin conditions. Personally, I feel like I’ve tried everything under the sun for dry skin, but nothing has come close to how well this works on my dry heels.

How To Use Atrac-Tain To Heal Cracked Heels

I start by washing my feet, preferably after soaking for awhile to soften up the dry skin.

Then I slather Atrac-Tain cream onto both feet, pull on a pair of clean socks, and go to bed. That’s all there is to it! Using it regularly will give you the best results, but you will likely notice a difference after just one night. Use nightly until your dry skin is gone and any cracks have healed, then use as needed.

I know there are other dry skin and cracked heel sufferers out there like me, so I couldn’t wait to share this! I don’t want anyone to suffer needlessly when this little “miracle” is so readily available. Time to find your happy feet (and hands) again!
